Why I'm Running for Governor

September 26, 2025

Former Assembly Majority Leader Ian Calderon launches bid for CA governor, saying Sacramento is out of touch. He vows to cut housing, gas & grocery costs, drive innovation, and bring 'a new generation of leadership' to make CA the best place to raise a family.

After five years outside the Sacramento bubble, I’ve learned two things:

  1. Being a dad is the best job in the world.
  2. Sacramento has no idea what really matters to people in the real world.

When I left politics, it wasn’t to retire, it was to raise four kids, build a business, and live the same challenges families across California face every day. And in that time, I’ve watched the same old political card game play out in the race for Governor. That’s why I’ve decided to step forward and run myself.

California should be the best place in the world to raise a family. But to make that true again, we need a new generation of leadership — leadership that understands what families are going through and isn’t afraid to take on the special interests that profit from the status quo.

Here’s where I’ll start:

  • Help families finally get into homes by stopping Wall Street and foreign investors from buying up neighborhoods
  • Veto any laws that drive up housing and gas costs
  • Drive down grocery prices by cutting regulations and fees that raise costs at the checkout line
  • Leverage California’s world-class innovation to actually improve the lives of Californians.

My family and I did not make this decision lightly. Elise and the kids know this campaign will be a fight — but they share my optimism that California is ready for a new generation of leadership, focused on real-world problems and real-world solutions.

But I can’t do it alone. Your friendship, support, and guidance will make the difference.
